We Cannot Be Silent

I would like to start by introducing myself to those of you who are reading this. My name is Traci Ferguson and I am most importantly a Christian. Please know that when I call myself a Christian I do not use this term lightly. I am not saying that I think I am better than anyone nor do I believe I am any worse. I am a Christian because I am a sinner and Jesus Christ is my Savior. So Please know as you read this that I am an imperfect person. I make mistakes on a daily basis but I am loved by the Creator of the universe.
Secondly, I am an American. I love my country and everything that it stands for and it is because of my love for my Savior and this great nation that I can no longer sit on the sidelines and be silent.
In reading history we heard of the martyrs, who no matter what the cost, whether it was ridicule from those around them, or a life spent in prison--suffered even to the point of death. Many times it has been asked, "Would you be willing to die for your faith"? My response has always been if that were the case, I hope so. But the fact is, there are times I don't even have the courage to tell those around me about my Savior, because I don't want to offend them or make them uncomfortable. I have recently come to the conclusion that I can no longer live my life like this. I can no longer be silent. You may not like what I have to say and you may not agree with the things that I tell you, but I will stand up because standing up for Jesus Christ isn't nearly enough when I consider the fact that He gave His life for me. We as Christians have been complacent for too long. We live in a nation that was built with God as its foundation and if you ask most Americans, they will tell you that America is still a Christian nation. Yet we sit back as they legalize abortion, take prayer out of our schools, and tell us that recognizing the birth of our Savior by saying "Merry Christmas" is no longer politically correct. We accepted defeat without even fighting the battle and that is why I am starting this blog because I want to fight for my Savior and fight for this great country.
Whether you are Democrat or Republican, if you voted for President Obama or Senator John McCain in November, if you are male or female, young or old, we are all Americans. That in itself is common ground, so together let us fight for our nation. As Christians let us get on our knees before the Lord and pray for our leaders that they will make wise decisions; pray for our service men and women as they put their lives on the line so that we are protected and free. Pray for our neighbors and friends as well as our enemies and let us remember what this country was founded on. No matter how hopeless the situation may seem, remember that we serve a God who is bigger than it all and if God is for us then who can be against us. The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 " If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." Together let us humble ourselves before the Lord and start fighting this battle on our knees, because I believe that is truly where the battle is won, so it must be where we begin.
